This week we'd like to talk about one of our chosen charities, Outward Bound Canada.
Outward Bound is an international, non-profit and independent outdoor-education organization with over 40 schools around the world and over 200,000 participants each year. It was founded in 1949 in Wales, under the leadership of educator Dr. Kurt Hahn. Their programs aim to foster personal growth and social skills of its participants by using challenging expeditions in the outdoors.
Outward Bound Canada began in 1969. Since then, over 150,000 Canadians have taken part in life-altering programs that invited self-discovery and inspired potential. The organization's commitment to youth at risk that is truly admirable. The participants are removed from their every-day surroundings and are "immersed in an exciting outdoor adventure where they must draw on their individual strengths and work on a team to strive for success". Students can even earn a high school credit on select programs.
Feet in the Forest is pleased to announce that two deserving youth from the Durham Region will be going on a week-long Outward Bound Canada Experience this summer with funds raised from the First Annual Feet in the Forest Golf Tournament. Thank you so much to everyone who attended, helped and supported last year's tournament. It's your support that made this possible.
